JOE KEESLAR SAN ANTONIO EXPO KNIFE
My San Antonio Expo Knife is a Brut de Forge Southwestern Bowie Paradox Series style knife. It is forged from a 19th century French file. The blade length is ten inches with an overall length of 15 ½ inches. The top of the blade and pommel end of the tang have “vine’ style decorative filework embellished by engraving. An integral guard is forged into the knife with a Spanish notch just in front of the guard. Handles are of presentation grade Curly Maple. My typical “S” and “C” scrolls are inlaid around a Silver Dogwood Flower on the right hand side scale. The left hand side Curly Maple scale has a similar scroll Silver Wire inlay motif accenting a 1 inch diameter Silver medallion depicting my 50 years as a bladesmith - “Bladesmithing 50 1962-2012.” The knife is serial numbered 1/50 and is the first 50th Anniversary knife made in 2012. The bolsters are of 416 Stainless Steel engraved with a “dragon scale” pattern.
My homemade sheath made of 9 oz tooling leather features a Mexican Loop design tooled in a typical Southwestern style Basket Weave pattern. It has a Texas Star concho on the crossover strap with a tooled scalloped edge on the Mexican Loop back flap. The sheath is marked with my traditional cartouche AND a 50 Year Anniversary stamp.
