I just returned from New England School of Metal Work where I had the pleasure of teaching an Intro to Bladesmithing class.
What a great experiance! The NESMW is a joy to teach at. The facilities and tooling are everything needed to learn all you can about bladesmithing.
The class size limit allows the instructors and students to get a lot of one on one time during the class. This is a huge benefit to the learning process.
Dereck Glaser; director and Nick Rossi, instructor; do everything possible to aid and assist the class in every way. They know smithing, they know knives; and they point to what you are looking for before you can ask. Fantastic guys to work with in every way.
The area? The Maine Coast, lobster, Acadia National Park. What else is there to say.
All students; from CA,TN,TX,NJ,and PA completed a knife that cut the rope, chopped a 2x4, and bent 90 deg. without even a crack in the edge.
In the NESMW; you smiths in the New England area have a huge resource available to you. Take advantage of it. I wish I just lived a little closer than I do.
