This is a Pyrometer that I just built. I wrote up a description of what I used, where I got the materials and pricing.

This is good way to go, it costs less than most thermocouples and gives you the flexibility of adding a solenoid to control the temp of your forge, tempering oven, or salt pots. Thanks for the links putting it all together. -Justin
