Hi folks,

I recently finished a version of the Forrest bowie. I got the overall effect I was after, but I'm thinking that I missed the thickness of the original. I've been unable to track down a detailed description of the knife. Does anyone have any information that I can use to get closer? Does anyone know the location of the original, or leads I might follow to track down more info?

Here is my version

Attached File  Keyes1WEB.jpg (47.71K)
Number of downloads: 11

BL 10 1/4"
OL 15 3/4"
Blade 1084 (forged from a 3" round)
Handle Walnut

and here is the original

Number of downloads: 1

Mine is shorter by about 3 inches, and is very light and thin (about 0.130 at the handle). This is also my first attempt at checkering.

Thanks for your help with this,

the forrest bowie has a maximun thickness of 5/16 and a severly tapered tang. the blade is 12 3/16 long by 1.75 inches wide. the deep cut checkering is app. 8 lines per inch and the angle between the lines is 90 degrees. the scales are attached with 3 silver birds-eye rivets and washers. the pommel cap is missing and I think the handle is now about 5 inches. a great artical in March 2010 Blade by Jim Batson
