Book "A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor" by George Cameron Stone

Master Smith Hanford Miller builds Classic Blades such as the Cinquedea dagger which originated in Italy during the 16th Century and was a favorite of ABS Founder Bill Moran as well as many other classic knives.

I asked Hanford where he developed some of his ideas for this wide range of classic blades and he referred me to a book entitled "A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor" by George Cameron Stone. The book is a 694 page paperback and is available through Amazon.com at this link.

Yes this is a classic book and my copy is getting well worn. The number of entries and information is amazing. For japanese sword enthusiasts there is also the Compton catalogue put out by Christies auction house. It is a coffe table size book, hardbound, with a lot of pictures and information. The book can be found on E-bay or at used book dealers as it is out of print. If you are interested in historical blades and methods the Stone book is a must. I have spent many hours going through it and still find things I have missed before. Good suggestion Dan.

Tis a very wonderful quick reference book.

i bought my copy many many years ago now on the suggestion from Mr Fogg and had to search high and low to order it... but ive never regretted that time spent tracking it down.

i always like to have it handy when designing.

plus - its just really interesting to flip through on a rainy day.
